Reflections of 2009
Monday, January 04, 2010 @ 11:12 AM

This post will be really honest I swear.

Finally right? Like after a week of procrastinating I'm finally doing this. And btw, if you realised this blog has no pics as of late, it's cos my mac can't upload pics from my phone. So we got narthing to see. Wasted, really, cos what's a yearly post without pictures that really do speak a thousand words? (some, at least).
Ah well, maybe I can manage with the power of the written word alone. I'll try. (:

So 2009 has really really been the most eventful. It seems cliche, doesn't it? Saying this year after year. But it really does feel like it. Each year just gets better than the previous while growing up.
I'll prove it. I'll try to recall all the things that made it better than 2008. The firsts, and the bigs.

1. Joining ODAC has really changed my life the most this year. Why? It's my first time joining a sports-related CCA, and it's the first time I love a CCA sooooo darn much. Being in Drama in sec school was probably one of my biggest mistakes. I'm just not a drama girl at heart.
The next points till point 17 will be ODAC-related.

2. First time scuba-diving, & getting a real license for it.

3. First time I tried with so much grit and determination to learn how to cycle and manage to do it! Right on the day of ODAC night cycling too.

4. But as a result it's the first time I got so many scars from one single activity. My first scars actually. Who cares anyway? Cos I completed 42km on bike!

5. Oh and cycling at Pulau Ubin too. First time falling down a slope and scraping my hand so badly. Evidence on facebook, photos.

6. First time gettting Gold for NAPFA! Okay ignore my primary school one please.

7. First time I'm sooo motivated to prove to others I'm fit, COS I'M IN ODAC. And people really believed I'm fit. (: Okay I'm guess I more or less am lah, but hey! I never did sports before coming to JC! Serious!

8. First time completing 14km in 105mins straight! (WILL Run '09)

9. First time running a marathon (Nike Human Race) and completing it on time. To me, it's ODAC-related for certain reasons. :D

10. First time having so many awesome bros around me, from ODAC. And thanks guys, for taking care of me, especially during cycling trips. Really, I mean it.

11. Of course the girls toooo! Thanks for making me not feel left out like I (CONFESSION!) did in drama last time. I love all of you!

12. I just have to add this in as a separate point. I LOVE ODAC. It's like a big family and despite conflicts here and there we still get together as the ODAC family and do tons of awesome stuff together!

13. First time kayaking 16km.

14. First time going for actual swimming lessons. And getting called an 'inter-idiot' by my coach cos I already had my intermediate swimming cert but totally forgot how to swim.

15. First time involved in booths like the ODAC Wii one on Thanksgiving.

16. First time going to Bukit Timah so many times I can almost call it my third home. (But also cos of LaoCai training.) I'm probably gonna miss the weekly trainings there. ):

17. ODAC Great Hike! Bloddy forgot omg. First time walking for an entire day and evening, from nature reserves to Bukit Timah to reservoirs. I think we conquered at least 50km. Amazing shitz for my unfit body in March.

18. Now for the Lao Cai trip, preparations and all! My first overseas school trip!

19. First time being an assistant group leader (as far as I can remember) and being so enthusiastic about everything.

20. First time learning Vietnamese. AND GETTING AN A FOR THE TEST.

21. First time conquering a mountain, the highest one in the whole of Indo-China at that. (3 143m)

22. First time sleeping at -3degC.

23. First time having to pee behind a bamboo tree.

24. First time twisting my right then left ankles three times in a row.

25. First time having such a high fever at 38.8.

26. First time taking a plane and overnight train with friends.

27. First time having a homestay in rural Vietnam.

28. First time bathing with cold water 2 days in a row.

29. First time visiting Friendship Village and interacting with the victims of Agent Orange.

30. First time performing a Vietnamese song. Okay I was just holding the paper water and grass most of the time but still..

31. First time visiting a Vietnamese school and painting their walls with really cheap 'paint'.

32. First time teaching these kids how to brush their teeth.

33. First time trying to interact with Viet kids despite the language barrier. They are really cute ttm.

34. First time ploughing the land and sowing seeds.

35. First time eating Viet food in Vietnam. (my auntie's viet too but she cooked different Viet food when we visit her).

36. First time being asked if I'm Viet. -.-

37. First time I was applauded for perseverance. Cos of my ankle thing.

38. First time receiving so much care and concern.

39. Now, more generic ones from school. My first time in a JC! SRJC! HAHHA DUHHHH.

40. First time being in a really cool arts class. 1A04'09!

41. First time having guys in the clique. Somewhat clique lah, LOL.

42. First time being in a mixed school. Sounds so noob, but yeah, SAC where got guys.

43. Thus, having someone(s) in the school like me. Some are ewww.

44. First time having a crush and get crushed back but end up in a total flop. Thanks to me, I admit. But I learnt a major lesson from it.

45. First time getting close to all my classmates. Except one or two lah. Heck. They are unwilling parties. Not my fault.

46. First time staying up till 2am for schoolwork. PW, to be exact.

47. First time I really think my GP is kinda good actually. :D In SAC it was just like mediocre? Maybe cos the standard in SR isn't that good. I hate to admit.

48. First time failing after trying to study. Seriously, I barely tried for O's, slept through my A.Maths, dropped my pure bio, crash studied the night before/ morning itself, and I got into a JC. And I camped at the library half a week before promos and I still failed. Oh well, I'm going up to J2 after all anyway.

49. First time fufilling my freshman dream of being an OGL. But honestly have retained very little of the enthusiasm.

50. Millionth time I've been in the same class as Desiree Lee Hui Ern! This, is a big, not a first. I love you girl! The letters you gave me yesterday were damn sweet. (: And I wanna say you're a big factor to making my 2009 awesome. Bus rides to and from school and sticking together in school and everything. Without you I'd feel really alone and lost, especially in the start of the year.

51. First time organising class outings! Failure much but it's alright.

52. First time feeling insecure cos of another girl.

53. First time I hated a subject so much. Econs, congrats.

54. First time staying so darn far from school! I miss my 5-min walks to SAC. ):

55. This is random. But it's the first time I feel macho. HAHHAHAHA.

56. First time going into A&E after running, slipping on wet floor, falling backwards and hitting the back of my head. But I was fine. HAHA.

57. First time being a PE rep! And I passed my BEC. (:

I guess that's it for now! LUNCH! bye.

58. First time I loved someone so much.
